Author and Forbes contributor Glenn Llopis is known as the “Opportunity Expert.” He promotes “leading through a lens of opportunity,” with a mindset of survival, renewal, and reinvention. In an article in Forbes, Llopis suggests that now more than ever, employers need to provide “proof of performance.” He outlines 5 ways that leaders can prove themselves and gain respect. Here are a few we think are most important.
- Lead by example | When employees see you being consistently reliable and hardworking, they’ll take notice. Set the tone for your employees by avoiding false promises and being trustworthy inside and out.
- Take risks and responsibility | Leaders boldly take advantage of opportunities and challenge the status quo. Being a risk-taker will earn you respect, but only if you also admit when you’ve made a mistake.
- Celebrate employees’ accomplishments (and downplay your own) | Take the time to get to know your employees’ needs and give them guidance. Good leaders reward and recognize their employees while being modest about their own accomplishments
Respectful Leaders earn the respect of their employees instead of feeling entitled to it. They are willing to take the initiative and work hard to show they are responsible, accountable, and worthy of respect.
